Wing Ribs – Part 7

So as I was doing a last double check on things and getting ready to start riveting on the top skin, something didn’t look 100% right.  I was doing the final check of the AN3 hardware to verify that I had torqued and installed torque seal on all the nuts when I realized that two of my wing ribs didn’t have any AN3 hardware installed.  Specifically the 2 of the outboard most ribs. (See photos below).

The confusion is that there are 8 holes per rib, but on page 14-5 the call-out say “4 Places” and the lines look like the point to the middle 6 most holes.  Since I left the top and bottom hole open on every other rib, I did the same for these two.  Looking forward in the directions, I noticed that none of the steps prior to attaching the forward leading edge does anything get installed in these holes.  My thought is that VANS really meant that we needed to install 8 rivets on these ribs, not 4.  I currently have an e-mail out to Vans to clarify but I fully expect that I need to add two rivets to each of these ribs.

UPDATE:  Well, didn’t find this originally on my VAF search, but looks like others already confirmed – 8 Rivets per rib.  Time to quickly add 2 more rivets to each of these ribs!  I fully expect VANS to tell me the same thing Monday.
