Welcome to my build-log and sorta web-blog while I work towards building my own airplane.
I’m a somewhat recent entrant into the world of aviation. While attending the Andrews Air Show in 2015, I had the pleasure of speaking with Tim Carey. He had his beautiful Harmon Rocket displayed and allowed my kids to sit behind the controls. He was discussing how my girls could take part in the Young Eagles program when they got a little older. He also explained how his airplane was a “home-built” and more about the EAA organization.
I walked away excited and interested in my kids taking part in the Young Eagles, but really I was the one that wanted to learn to fly. I had always been fascinated with airplanes and flight, but never really thought that I could learn to fly myself. This encounter was just the spark that I needed to realize that if I was going to let my kids do the Young Eagles program, I wanted to get my license first!
Maybe now is a good time to mention that when I get interested in a topic, I tend to go all-in. My friends and family like to say that I’m a serial hobbyist. From motorcycles, juggling, rock-climbing, paintball, electronics, computers, gaming, woodworking, etc. I don’t just want to try it, I like to fully understand it. Well, with something as interesting as flying, it didn’t take much for me to get hooked! This “hobby” has kept my interest far longer than any of my previous hobbies. 🙂
By profession I’m a technologist. That is I’m a computer geek (Computer Science) that works in IT for the Federal Government. I’ve done everything from coding to network infrastructure, and a whole lot in-between. I don’t consider myself an expert on anything specifically but a technologist with a broad range of experience.
I’m currently an IFR rated pilot based out of HEF. I built most of my RV-10 in my garage, but am currently finishing it in my hangar at HEF with the support and love of my family. None of them are aviation buffs, but they love me and allow me to indulge in my current obsession! I hope you enjoy the site and found at least a few useful nuggets of info but generally this is a place for me to document the work I did over the entire build process.
